One thing really just gets me bothers and gets me hot under the collar! It's when people say thing when asking me about my film career... It goes very much like this, "Are you still doing the film thing!", WTF... I have no idea why they say it like that.
FYI, I been doing this "thing", for many years now and doing it more seriously for the last few years, so total it's like 11 years in it. Which I am sure doesn't make it a "thing" anymore. It has even out lived relationships with me and people.
I know it's because I am Black! A Black Man, that I don't get much respect when it comes to having a career in film. Everyone thinks all we can do is rap, that's all they see. They can't understand and aren't use to seeing us lead the way in anything positive. They can't image us being in charge. Well hello!!! There are lots of Black Men who are Film makers out there and many who have also accomplished a lot that you have never heard of. Mostly because they are doing something positive, that the entertainment industry doesn't want the world, to relate too for various reasons.. Just because I don't fall in line with the bullshit doesn't make this a thing for me nor should it be referred to as such. How would you like it if I said are you still doing that single mother thing, or that lame work thing, or that relationship thing??? Glad you get my point!!!!
The truth is many of the people in the world are fucked up, they have no idea, how fucked up they are and it keeps getting worst everyday. I see it and I am like look at all these lost souls... It's downright depression. See these comments mostly come from people who are doing a thing themselves. In my mind their thing isn't really as good as my thing.. Oops, did I say it was thing? I mean my Film career. Cause I am sorry to tell you, but yes that's what it is. A Film career! Just because it's not giving to me by the white man, doesn't make my achievements in it any less, but that appears to be the thinking, its only consider worthy of respect, if the white man gives it to me or if I seek their approval for it.
For the record, let me state that I never got into this, simply for the white man's approval to validate myself. So listen up, the Black man doesn't need the white man's approval to be apart of or have a career in the world. All we have to do is claim it. In all seriousness, as we are the first people, it has always been our careers. We needn't entertain the notion, that something we created has to be included in our children's world, for it to be consider savoury. Yes I have a career as a Film Maker!!!!
