So here's the skinny, on this new debate about paying production crew.. As you know Criags List has become the new hub for searching and finding production crew for your indy film, ect.. In their genius, they added two selections at the end of their posting form. (No Pay or Pay). Now for everyone in New York who thinks they're George Lucas or super talented and just have too ger paid for gaining experence and build their reel.. In my opinion, just working on a few nobodies ever going too see film projects or shorts doesn't, make you deserving of a paycheck. Most of these guys who want too get paid are mediocre. They show up late and just don't give a fuck cause all they want is the quick buck. They don't respect the effort of the indy project but what too eat of it. They have no credits and most of the time no equipment. So there's a ever growing debate on gettig paid too just know some modest things. The following is a conversation I had with one poster on CL. This is what one poster wrote.

These postings for no or low pay have gotten out of hand. I'd rather pay to post in this section, than keep having to shuffle through the mess these people are creating. If anyone has a contact for the person on craigslist that handles this section, please email it to me. thanks.

What's wrong with low or no pay??? You damn L.A washouts or burnouts which one are you just suck at what you do, cause if you where any good at it you wouldn't be begging in NYC for money.. Get a life losers and give people the right too learn this business for free and not be stuck in debt like you after going too some lame ass film school...

The only time I work for something less than a paycheck is for barter. I never ask anyone to work on my productions for low pay unless they are interested in the project and understand that I am willing to help them out equally in the future.The posts i'm referring to were very specific about wanting a professional, but also being very rude about it. It is my understanding that many of the people posting these, aren't aware of what a "professional" usually makes. So they state a lower pay rate. I was simply stating that I don't see this type of ignorance about the industry is LA. The people here are actually hurting themselves by taking a pay cut and working for people who are not professional in the least. I'm a born and bred new yorker, went to school here and have been getting great gigs in LA, and some awesome stuff here. I don't have debt. So i'm not complaining. I just think its really sad that NY needs a union, and LA doesn't.

Well Paige, are you in the business??? What's your craft??? Hey i may have paying work for you... You sound like you are serious and very talented, in your profession.... People I don't mind paying the world too if their work helps make me shine and is the shit***** I love Free Lancers, I wish I could be one... Truthfully from my experience, New York has the worst set of Free Lancers and a few other states on the east coast... Yes I have the work and the receipts too prove it..LOL.. So when someone says too me they need money, being a Film producer I think this guys behind on his rent, because if the work is the shit*** Believe you me I will pay for it even if I have too rob, steal and kill.. It's nothing against you, but please have a demo reel and of some really hott shit, no stuff you did in school and some professional references, a website helps too.. Please don't be asking for payment, full or partial up front.. I like too trust everybody, but no one yet has given me any work who I paid upfront. Just show people that your are professional and not just trying too make a quick buck and you will get paid.. What you feel you should or command. This isn't a gentlemen's club I am not hear out of desperation, I am hear too do great work and hire the people too help me do that.. You know.. I am sorry for you saying that, I am not a rude man, I thought it was one of these damn male preppie wanna bee, no talent types.. Not a female.. So my apologizes for the blunt and harshness.. Really I hate CL because it's like a haven for any clown with a computer and some chessy graphic software... New York just needs, to have better networking between the producers and the talent and weed out the flakes on the both ends... You know about the freelancers union???? - Wild Will
